What is Vopola?
Vopola is a tool for live quizzes in the browser. You build the quiz, show the questions on a big screen and everyone answers on their own phone. It suits a Friday quiz or a kick-off with colleagues just as well as a lesson, a Christmas party or a family reunion.
The host
What do I need as the host?
An account, a browser and a screen everyone can see: a projector, a TV or a screen you share in a video call. You create the account with your email address – we send you a link, so there’s no password to remember. The big screen opens in its own tab, and from the control room you start, pause and move on at your own pace.
What kinds of quiz can I run?
There are six question types – multiple choice (even with several right answers), true or false, type the answer, guess the number, put in order and match pairs – plus slides between questions. The free plan includes multiple choice and slides with titles, pauses and the leaderboard. The other question types and slides with an image or video are part of Pro. Everyone can play for themselves or in teams, in person or remotely: share the big screen in Zoom, Teams or Meet and everyone answers on their phone.
How does scoring work?
You choose the time limit and points for each question – 1,000 points unless you change it. With Speed scoring, a right answer earns more the faster it comes: full points straight away and half when time runs out. With Fixed scoring, every right answer earns the same. Put in order, match pairs and multiple choice with several right answers give partial points when some of it is right, and in teams the members’ points add up.
Can I import questions?
Yes. Download the template, write one question per row in a spreadsheet and import the file as CSV. You can also pull in questions from another of your quizzes, or export a quiz as CSV.
Can I try the quiz first?
Yes. The preview shows the big screen and the phone side by side and plays the quiz step by step, from the lobby to the results, with test players. Nothing is saved and nobody can join. You can also practise the questions on your own, with or without a time limit.
What happens to the results?
After the last question the big screen shows the podium and every phone shows its place. For 30 days you can share the results page, with the leaderboard and how each question went, with everyone who played, and while it is shared it can be printed or saved as a PDF. You can also choose not to share it. Answers and points per player and question always download as CSV.
The players
Do players need an app or an account?
No. They scan the QR code, open the link or type in the code from the big screen, pick a name and they’re in within seconds. Nothing to download and no account to create.
Which phones work?
Any phone with an up-to-date browser, such as Safari on an iPhone or Chrome on Android. A tablet or computer works just as well. All it needs is a connection, over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
What if someone loses their connection?
The phone keeps trying on its own. Anyone who reloads the page or opens the link again on the same phone carries on as the same player, points and all.
What happens to players’ names and answers?
Players only type in a name, plus a team name if you play in teams – no email, no phone number and no account. The name shows on the big screen, on the leaderboard and on the results page, which anyone with the link can open for 30 days unless you turn sharing off. During the game you can remove a player, and afterwards you can delete the names, answers and teams for good. Otherwise they are deleted automatically 12 months after the quiz.
Which languages are available?
Vopola is available in Swedish and English. Each phone follows its browser’s language – Swedish if that’s Swedish, English otherwise – and everyone can switch before the quiz starts. You write the questions in whatever language you like.
